Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) library of 3,100 pieces of pre-commissioned and available music has been digitized and updated, with new search functions added to facilitate access by programme producers. The update includes the compilation onto digital hard drives of recently commissioned music from ABC productions and new original music provided to ABC Music Publishing exclusively for use in ABC productions. The new digital interface enables music cues to be sorted by genre, composer, and descriptive words that match the style of the production. The library includes music previously commissioned for ABC productions, and music by screen music composers on the ABC music-publishing roster. The library is compiled into 12 genres including romantic interludes, comedy, travelogue, drama/action, drama/suspense, atmospherics, human stories, impact promo’s, life styles, drama/miscellaneous, drama/tension, and sports. Eloise Nolan, head of ABC music publishing said, “This new service means that the ABC’s growing resource of ABC-owned music is now even more accessible for our in-house productions, with all music rights cleared up front thus allowing the production to then be made available, including via screening or downloading, anywhere in the world with no underlying music rights issues.”
