Sydney – World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is expanding its presence into Asia Pacific with a regional headquarters to be set up in Sydney. WWE has also promoted Jonathan Sully as president, Asia Pacific, to be responsible for establishing the office. He has also appointed Ed Wells as general manager for Japan. Sully was formally based in London where he was SVP, international marketing, WWE, and Wells was previously with Nickelodeon Japan. WWE’s weekly TV programming is broadcast in 19 territories across Asia Pacific including India, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. The company’s 14 annual pay-per-view events are also broadcast in the region through TV affiliates including Malaysia’s Astro, Singapore’s StarHub, the Philippines’ Solar Entertainment, Japan’s JSports, Thailand’s TrueVisions, Fiji’s Sky Pacific, Australia’s Main Event and New Zealand’s The Box. A major initiative for the WWE Asia Pacific operation will be to promote the SmackDown/ECW Live Event Tour in Australia and New Zealand in June 2008. Consisting of seven live events, the tour will take place in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Newcastle and Brisbane; as well as Auckland and Christchurch. A similar tour in 2007 sold 95% of tickets on the first day. Tickets for the June tour go on sale on April 4, 2008.
