Singapore – PT Excelcomindo Pratama (XL), the third largest mobile telco in Indonesia with more than 14 million users, has added a new data centre and an intelligent network built by Datacraft. Worth US$2.2million, the new infrastructure will enable XL to expand subscriber services to include 3G-based video calls, music and movie downloads, games, news-on-demand and location-based services. A key component of the restructured network is the IP Transfer Point (ITP) that serves as a signaling gateway to allow XL to better transport SS7-based traffic on an SS7-over-IP network to replace the more costly TDM-E1 (Time Division Multiplex) lease line connections. The new network also allows simpler deployment; reduces infrastructure cost; as well as provides greater volume throughput and higher bandwidth to roll out new services. Since obtaining a 3G license in 2006, XL has deployed 3G services in 74 areas across 20 Indonesian provinces as well as launched a Video Contact Centre to provide 3G technology customer support. The company is currently expanding a terrestrial digital fiber-optic network across Java, high-capacity digital microwave networks in Kalimantan, Sumatra and Sulawesi, and digital fiber-optics submarine cables linking Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sulawesi and Kalimantan.
