Paris – American scriptwriter, director and producer, Alex Gibney, will be guest of honor and will deliver a keynote speech, ‘The Power of Documentary’, at MIPDOC 2008, the international showcase for documentary screenings to be held from April 5 – 6, 2008. Gibney will also be master of ceremony at the 2008 Trailblazers Awards where awards will be presented to five directors selected from around the world. Gibney’s credits include Taxi to The Dark Side and No End in Sight, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Sexual Century, Soldiers in the Army of God; Herbie Hancock: Possibilities and Lightning in a Bottle. The five MIPDOC Trailblazers are South Korean director Bon Hwan Ku, Japanese director Yufuko Kuroda, Greek producer Rea Apostolides, Canadian director, producer and executive producer Daniel Cross, and South African director Karin Slater. Selection was made by a global jury panel comprising documentary associations and festivals including EBS International Documentary Festival (EIDF, South Korea), the association of All Japan TV Programs (ATP), Documentary Organization of Canada, European Documentary Network (EDN, Denmark), and Encounters Documentary Festival (South Africa). The third MIPDOC International Trailblazers is also partnering with the the Korean Broadcasting Institute (KBI), Sundance Channel, and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). A record 469 companies from 60 countries presented 1,311 programs, including 944 new shows at MIPDOC 2007.
