Singapore – MediaCorp and mobile service provider M1 are partnering to launch a consumer trial for a mobile TV service in Singapore. Based on the Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld (DVBH) technology, the trial service is planned for a mid-2008 launch, subject to regulatory approval. An invitation to tender has been issued to vendors to submit proposals for mobile TV infrastructure and devices, including a trial service. The proposed service follows the Memorandum of Understanding signed between M1 and MediaCorp in Oct 2007 to collaborate on mobile TV. The partnership extends from collaborative efforts between the two parties to offer video and TV content customized for mobile phones. MediaCorp Studios and M1 have previously offered 3G mobile drama series as well as celebrity and entertainment programmes. Neil Montefiore, CEO, M1 said, “With the DVB-H promise of good audio-visual quality and interesting content from MediaCorp…. as well as other leading broadcasters, we will deliver a compelling mobile TV experience for our customers. It is this combination of the right technology and content providers that will create a viable mobile TV service.”
