STAR Group is shifting from traditional satellite and leased circuit service to the Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) / Internet Protocol (IP) technology for their contribution link to Europe, via a network-based managed services deal implemented by BT’s Media and Broadcast sector. The new system enables STAR to bring its services to UK and Europe with increased ease, manageability and efficiency. Currently, BT carries four STAR channels including STAR PLUS UK, STAR NEWS UK, STAR GOLD International and STAR ONE International from Hong Kong to BSkyB and Arqiva in UK, before feeding the signals through Direct To Home (DTH) platforms to reach subscribers across UK and Europe. This is the first time that STAR has chosen an MPLS managed services infrastructure for the contribution links to carry live TV feeds across UK and Europe for mission critical operations. The network also provides a high uptime as required by STAR.
