Venice- Free-to-view Internet TV network Babelgum will host the Babelgum Online Film Festival, an online event to reward international independent short filmmakers. The festival has six competitive categories: Babelgum Looking for Genius Award for emerging talent in direction, animation, writing and/or camera work; Short Film Award for the best short film of under 20 minutes; Documentary Award for the documentary that best presents its subject; Animation Award for the film that best displays story and the craft of animation; Social/Environment Award for the best film that addresses an issue impacting the world today; as well as Spot/Advertising Award for the most creative advertising spot highlighting a product. Open to films screened at international film festivals between January 2007 and February 2008, submissions from rights owners will be accepted from Sept. 15 2007 – Feb. 15 2008. Submissions must be 45 minutes or less, in English or have English-language subtitles. Submissions are free and can be uploaded at www.babelgum.com. Babelgum will hold exclusive online rights to all accepted films from March 2008 to March 2009.
