Sydney– The Australian Digital Suppliers Industry Forum (ADSIF) today launched a High Definition certification “tick” logo for televisions that have a built-in HD digital tuner and meet all Australian and industry HD standards. “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to understand what constitutes HD TV,” said ADSIF chairman Ross Henderson. “”What we’re trying to do is help consumers clearly identify products that are developed to relevant standards, while providing greater certainty when connecting with other digital entertainment products.” The logo was unveiled at an industry gathering at Network Ten, where the network announced it would broadcast more than 246 hours of live HD sport this year, while next year all its AFL football games would be transmitted in HD. Approximately 30% of Australian homes have digital TV sets. Ten’s CEO Grant Blackley said: “Most of TEN’s prime-time schedule is in HD and we are the only network telecasting premium live sport in HD, which, as we’ve seen in Australia and overseas, is a key driver in the take-up of digital television generally, and HD in particular.”
