Seoul- Local media reported July 30 that KT will trial its IPTV service this month ahead of a full service launch in Russia’s Maritime Province in 2008. Working through its affiliate NTC, which has an 80% stake in the service for the Russian territory, it has secured 30 Russian broadcast channels and plans to air real-time broadcasts over the Internet. The service will also provide movies, TV programs and sports content via VOD. The full service launch in Russia is expected to take place before the full service roll out of KT’s domestic Internet TV service, Mega TV, which started operations in July. Currently available in Seoul, Gwacheon and Dongtan areas, Mega TV faces legal restrictions that bar real-time broadcasting, making it a ‘halfway service’.
