China will overtake Japan as the largest entertainment and media market in the Asia Pacific in 2009, when E&M spending in the PRC hits US$131.9 billion. And China will surpass the U.S. in overall Internet spending in 2010 to become the world’s largest Internet territory in the world. That’s according to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Global Entertainment and Media Outlook 2007-2011. The introduction of a major resort casino in Singapore will lead to a surge in growth during 2010–11 that will raise Singapore’s compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to 18%, the report says. The Philippines will benefit from a major new casino and expand at 13.6% CAGR, and PwC expects double-digit annual increases in Indonesia and Pakistan. Asia Pacific will be the fastest-growing region for convergent platforms spending (home video, TV networks, TV distribution, digital music downloads, mobile music, Internet advertising and access spending, video games, business information, electronic books and online gaming). Across those platforms, PwC predicts spending will soar from $151.2 billion in 2006 to $284.3 billion in 2011, a projected 13.5% CAGR.
