Jakarta- Indonesian electronics company PT Agis Tbk, IPTV and mobile TV systems integrator Broadband Network Systems, Ltd. (BNS) and mobile TV technology provider Toshiba will build a broadcast-based, nationwide mobile TV network in Indonesia scheduled for launch early next year. Operated by Agis, the service will be the first DMB-based mobile TV service outside Japan and Korea. Toshiba will supply major head-end and transmission equipment, management software, and provide technical and operating expertise. The DMB looks to be able to cover Indonesia’s 200 regions with a single frequency to allow subscribers to watch the same programmes across the country, and eventually throughout Asia Pacific. Anna Maria, Senior Officer at Agis, believes Indonesia’s youthful population as well as low but fast growing mobile penetration makes it a suitable market for a broadcast-based mobile TV service. Agis will import and distribute new mobile handsets and devices throughout Indonesia. Agis is currently in discussions with potential partners such as mobile operators and content owners regarding collaborations.
