Vietnam Television (VTV) has announced it will stop broadcasting English Premier League (EPL) football matches after months of price negotiations between VTV and ESPN Star Sports (ESS) have failed. ESS holds the exclusive broadcast rights to EPL for upcoming seasons, 2007-2010 in some, but not all Asian markets. But VTV told local media that Singapore-based ESS has pushed the price up too high for Vietnam. VTV and Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) – two of Vietnam’s largest television stations – also told media they will not buy the rights from any exclusive intermediary in Vietnam, suggesting that prices come too high through third parties.
