Sydney-FremantleMedia will begin selling internationally format rights to The Gift, a factual series which looks at the life-and-death business of organ donation and transplants. The Nine Network commissioned FremantleMedia Australia to produce eight episodes of The Gift, hosted by 60 Minutes reporter Tara Brown. The format was created by FMA Chief Executive Mark Fennessy and his in-house creative team. “Our colleagues are very enthused by this and will be taking it out internationally,” he tells Television Asia. “There are hundreds of people across the country desperately waiting for the call that will save their lives. We’ll follow their dramatic stories and the extraordinary Australians who run the donor and recipient teams.” The Gift will profile the people on the transplant list who wait for the call that will rush them to surgery, and the professionals who work around the clock on these operations. The producers will work closely with Life Gift, the division of the Red Cross responsible for organ donation and transplants. The series will premiere on Nine later this year.
