Globo has received five nominations for the 41st International Emmy Awards in Cannes. The announcement of the finalists was made during MIPCOM.
The broadcaster is in the running with two productions in the Telenovela category: Brazil Avenue, a global success already sold to more than 100 countries, and Side by Side, which will be arriving in the international market in 2014.
Fernanda Montenegro is a finalist in the ‘Best Performance by an Actress’ category for her role in the special Sweet Mother; How to Enjoy the End of the World is running for the ‘Comedy’ award and Next in Line is nominated for the ‘Drama Series’ category.
The winners will be revealed at a gala ceremony held on November 25th in New York.
Globo is the only Brazilian broadcaster that has already won the International Emmy and holds eight statues from the awards considered as the Oscars for global television. The first was in 1981 for A Arca de Noé.
The following year was the turn of Life and Death Severina. In 1983, Roberto Marinho, the founder of Globo, won the award in the Directing category. The first telenovela to win the Emmy was India – A Love Story by Gloria Perez, in 2009. In 2011, the broadcaster won again in the Telenovela category with Blood Ties, a coproduction with SIC. In the same year it was awarded for coverage by ‘Jornal Nacional’ about the invasion of the Complexo do Alemão in the International Emmy Award for Journalism.
Last year, at the 40th International Emmy Awards, Globo won two statues, with the productions The Illusionist, in the Telenovela category, and The Invisible Woman, in the Comedy category.
