Media Distillery launches Sports Engagement Suite

Media Distillery, the AI-driven video intelligence company trusted by leading streaming services, broadcasters, and video platforms worldwide, today announced the launch of the Sports Engagement Suite – an end-to-end AI platform that helps sports streaming services and broadcasters deliver the fan experiences their audiences expect, without the manual effort.

Global investment in sports rights has reached record levels, driven by intense competition between traditional broadcasters and streaming platforms, with global spending projected to exceed US$78 billion by 2030, according to Ampere Analysis. Yet turning that investment into compelling viewer experiences remains largely manual – slow, inconsistent, and hard to scale across live and on-demand content.

The Sports Engagement Suite changes this. It automatically detects key moments, generates navigable sports chapters, produces match highlights, and surfaces relevant shoulder content – all in real time, across linear and on-demand streams.

The suite comprises four core features:

Match Highlights
Automatically generates high-quality video summaries of sports matches, ready within minutes after the final whistle. The summary length and editorial style are configurable, allowing sport streamers to define what makes a “perfect” highlight.


Media Distillery supports multiple sports, with football launching before the 2026 FIFA World Cup and additional sports such as ice hockey and basketball to follow shortly.


While fully automated, the highlights are designed to feel professionally crafted – with natural pacing and seamless transitions – while giving editorial teams the ability to stay in control via an intuitive dashboard.

Key Moments
Detects key in-game moments in real time, enabling viewers who join mid-match to instantly catch up on what they missed.


Sport streamers can configure which events to highlight as key moments – tailored to the sport, competition, or audience – giving full control over what matters most.


Key Moments transforms the live viewing experience, making it more accessible and driving higher engagement throughout the broadcast.

Sports Chapters
AI-generated chapter markers, complete with descriptive titles and summaries, turn long-form sports broadcasts into fully navigable viewing experiences. The chapters allow viewers to jump directly to the sport, match, or moment they care about, without showing spoilers.


Sports chapters are particularly valuable for complex formats, such as multi-sport events or tournaments with multiple matches played sequentially, where viewers need to quickly find the right segment within long broadcasts.
Proven in production for NLZIET, where Media Distillery enabled navigation across dynamic, unscheduled Winter Olympics coverage without any prior knowledge of programme structure. Viewers could seamlessly navigate between sports such as alpine skiing and snowboarding within the same broadcast, as coverage shifted throughout the day.

Shoulder Content
Extends engagement beyond the live event by tagging and surfacing related content – such as pre- and post-match interviews, line-up announcements, press conferences, and expert analyses – across both linear and on-demand environments. Sports fans can now easily discover relevant content on their favorite athlete, team, or league, content they would otherwise miss out on.

In a proof-of-concept called ‘Follow a Sport’ with Liberty Global, 77% of subscribers indicated that the feature led them to watch content they would otherwise not have watched, while 67% said it enabled them to watch sports content within the Liberty Global environment that they would normally watch on other platforms. This creates a direct competitive advantage, helping platforms capture viewing that would otherwise flow to competing services.

What sets the Sports Engagement Suite apart is its coverage of the full fan journey. While most solutions address a single use case – highlights, navigation, or tagging – Media Distillery unifies real-time moment detection, in-programme navigation, automated highlights, and related pre- and post-match content discovery into a single integrated platform.
