Singapore – Ahead of the 54th Golden Horse Awards, Best Director nominee and Chinese director-producer Vivian Qu led her producer Sean Chen and actress in Angels Wear White Zhou Meijun to grace the opening of 28th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) at the Marina Bay Sands Grand Theatre, where the film was screened. Joining her on the red carpet also include Qissa director Anup Singh, legendary Bollywood actress Waheeda Rehman, Japanese filmmaker Daisuke Miyazaki, award-winning Singaporean filmmakers Kirsten Tan, Anthony Chen, Boo Junfeng, and Singaporean actress Fiona Xie.
Set in a small coastal town, Angels Wear White sketches a portrait of female objectification and corruption in modern-day China. A Chinese-French collaboration and the sole Chinese entry in competition at the 74th Venice International Film Festival, the film also unveils the masks shrouding the once-peaceful coastal town as the audience is drawn to question the difficult choices that the characters, who are trapped in a world that offers them no safety, have to make.
The 28th SGIFF is a champion of film talent and cinema of the region, and will run from 23 November to 3 December 2017, across various venues, including Marina Bay Sands, Shaw Theatres Lido, National Museum of Singapore, National Gallery Singapore, The Arts House, Filmgarde Bugis+, Objectifs and *SCAPE.
