El Señor De Los Cielos’ third season delivers highest rated premiere

April 23, 2015 by TVA Editor

Miami – The premiere of the third season of the Telemundo Super Series El Señor de los Cielos (Lord of the Skies) ranked as the highest rated premiere in network history, averaging 2,681,000 total viewers and 1,760,000 adults 18-49, according to Nielsen.  The premiere delivered an increase of +14% and +23% among total viewers, and 22% and 27% among adults 18-49, versus seasons one and two respectively.  Starring Rafael Amaya as Aurelio Casillas, the original production outperformed all Spanish-language networks in total viewers and adults 18-49, and English-language broadcasters CBS and ABC, across adults 18-49, at 10pm.  El Señor de los Cielos ranked as the fifth highest-rated show in prime time, regardless of language, among adults 18-49.  The premiere reached a cumulative audience of 3,346,000 total viewers, including 2,131,000 adults 18-49. El Señor de los Cielos illustrates the innovative concept of the Telemundo Super Series – scripted stories designed for multiple seasons, driven by innovative storytelling and high production values, placing Telemundo at the forefront of Spanish-language television in the United States.

Locally, the original production ranked #1 among adults 18-49, regardless of language, in Miami, Houston and Phoenix and was the #1 Spanish-language program in its time period in Chicago, in that same demo.

On the digital front, El Señor de los Cielos ranked as the #1 most social Spanish-language programme in terms of total tweets, according to Nielsen Social.  Following the success of the first two seasons of the original production, Telemundo launched an innovative integrated marketing campaign including a dedicated Facebook application, exclusive comic book, 19-hour surveillance footage from Aurelio Casillas’ prison cell, a six-city CineTransformer Experience Tour, an on-air recap special leading to the premiere as well as a digital special titled Los Secretos de El Señor de los Cielos exclusively on Telemundo.com.  The Facebook app, which allowed users to receive a personalized pass to visit Aurelio Casillas in jail, was played over 57,000 times.

Produced by Telemundo Studios and filmed by Argos Television, El Señor de los Cielos is one of Telemundo’s most ambitious productions to date; El Señor de los Cielos tells the story of Aurelio Casillas, a prominent Mexican drug lord.  In this new season, Aurelio is being held in a maximum-security marine prison in Mexico, enduring torture by his interrogators, all while plotting his escape.
