FOX Sports acquires French Open rights in Asia

October 17, 2013 by TVA Editor

Singapore – FOX International Channels (FIC) Asia, 21st Century FOX’s international multi-media business and Asia’s leading pay-TV network, announced that they have secured a new multi-year contract for the exclusive rights to broadcast the Tennis Grand Slam, the French Open, across 20 territories in Asia.

The highly-anticipated tournament, and the only Grand Slam played on clay, will be showcased on FOX Sports’ networks across multiple platforms including television, broadband, mobile and IPTV.

Under this agreement with The Federation Française de Tennis, fans will not only be able to watch more than 80 hours of LIVE tennis action from the Roland Garros Stadium from May 2014 onwards, but will also have an opportunity to watch multiple games played on different courts concurrently across FOX Sports’ various platforms.

FOX Sports is committed to showcasing the action from the French Open tournament in multiple languages including Mandarin, Cantonese, Thai, Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia, in addition to English.

This latest multi-year acquisition of the French Open further strengthens FOX Sports’ tennis bouquet, making three out of four Tennis Grand Slams as it already showcases the Australian Open and The Championship, Wimbledon across its networks. FOX Sports’ stellar tennis coverage is complemented by its top quality presentation featuring tennis legend, Vijay Amritraj, who continues to bring the most insightful and engaging presentation to fans in Asia.

Rohit D’Silva, Senior Vice President, Content & Communications-Sports, Fox International Channels (FIC) Asia, said: “We are very pleased to now offer the celebrated French Open tournament to fans across all our territories. We are committed to further enhance the viewing experience of fans with the most engaging, relevant and entertaining programming including localisation of presentation and multi-platform broadcast”.

Michel Grach, the FFT Head of Media & Sponsorship, said: “Through SPORTFIVE International our exclusive media sales agency in Asia, we are thrilled to have secured such a strong partner in key Asian markets for the next five editions of Roland Garros. Tennis fans in these countries will be delighted with the quality and quantity of the coverage provided by FOX Sports.”
