Santa Monica, Los Angeles – Miramax and award-winning director Martin Scorsese have announced that that they are developing a new TV series based on the film Gangs of New York, which focused on early confrontations between rival gangs in New York in the mid to late 1800s.

The series will draw from the multitude of events surrounding the birth of organised gangs in America including New York, Chicago and New Orleans. The original film released in 2002 by Miramax, starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and Daniel Day-Lewis.

“No one better exemplifies what the new Miramax is and will be better than Martin Scorsese. His dedication to quality and the art of storytelling continues to excite everyone that works with him and watches his films and television programs.
