BBC Worldwide announced the appointment of Helen Jackson as managing director content & production. In this role, Jackson will take overall leadership of BBC Worldwide’s TV content activity, including international formats and production; talent & brand ventures and investment in content from the BBC and independent sector. Currently BBC Worldwide’s director of independents, Jackson has been acting managing director, content and production, since the departure of Wayne Garvie in September. Joining BBC Worldwide more than two decades ago, Jackson has built up formidable commercial experience of the television sector holding various roles across international sales and distribution, marketing and content investment. In 2000, Jackson launched BBC Worldwide’s Indie Unit to manage its TV acquisitions from the independent sector. Following the terms of trade changes in 2004, however, Jackson’s leadership developed much closer partnerships and collaboration across the sector, through long term development deals, seed investment to nurture new talent and a limited number of equity stakes in UK and international production companies. Jackson will report to John Smith, CEO of BBC Worldwide, and is confirmed in her new role immediately.
