Hanoi – The Football Association Premier League Limited (The Premier League) and MP & Silva, a leading international sports media company, jointly announced that they will work together with the Ministry of Information & Communications in Vietnam to ensure that the intellectual property rights of the Barclays Premier League (BPL) are respected in the territory. The situation regarding the live broadcast of BPL matches in Vietnam has become confusing for consumers, with several unauthorised cable operators re-broadcasting the Premier League content via channels that reside outside of the country. MP & Silva – awarded exclusive distribution rights for the BPL competition in Vietnam by the Premier League in October last year – met with government officials from Vietnam’s Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) to clarify the legitimacy of MP & Silva’s position and to list the official sub-licensees and their respective rights for BPL matches. Following the meeting, Luu Vu Hai, General Director of Department of Radio – Television and Electronic Information Management, MIC, outlined the ministry’s support for MP & Silva and the Premier League and agreed that it would take the necessary action in order to protect the rights of the league and its officially licensed broadcast partners in the Vietnamese market.
