Asia – National Geographic Channel and the Taiwan Government opened a new chapter in their long-standing partnership with the premiere of the high-definition (HD) documentary Megacities: Kaohsiung. Funded by the Kaohsiung City Government, this HD production extends the current partnership of National Geographic Channel and the Republic of China, taking it to city level to highlight sustainability in the second Megacities episode to feature Taiwan. Launched 25 September 2010 at 7pm (HK/SIN) on National Geographic Channel and National Geographic Channel HD across Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Southeast Asia, and Middle East Asia, Megacities: Kaohsiung will initially reach 100 million homes in Asia. The one-hour episode spotlights Kaohsiung City, Taiwan’s industrial powerhouse, and its transformation into a sustainable city of the future through various ambitious public programs. Kaohsiung City is the first Asian city to be featured in this series of the internationally popular Megacities programme. National Geographic Channel and the Government Information Office previously cooperated to introduce Taiwan to the global National Geographic Channel audience through Megacities: Taipei, which aired in 2008.
