New Delhi – Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific announced the launch of Discovery HD on Sun Direct, India’s first DTH platform that offers high-definition services. 24-hour high-definition channel Discovery HD will be broadcast in English, advertising free. Rahul Johri, senior vice president and general manager, India, Discovery Networks Asia Pacific, said, “The emergence and growth of digitisation in India is critically dependent on the broadcasters’ competence to offer differentiated, credible and entertaining content.” Tony D’Silva, chief operating officer, Sun Direct commented, “Sun Direct is immensely proud to be the first DTH provider in India to showcase high definition content to its viewers. Discovery HD’s worldwide reputation, global programming repertoire and production quality will surely add value to our HD product offering.” Also this week, Discovery Communications announced the global launch of TLC, one of the fastest-growing female lifestyle channels in the US and home to top-rated shows including LA Ink, Cake Boss, and Say Yes to the Dress. The international version of TLC had its global launch on March 4 in Norway and will be available in more than 75 markets reaching more than 100 million households by Spring 2011, making it the most widely distributed female lifestyle channel brand in pay-TV.
