Malaysia – Star World has topped the primetime chart with the latest US smash hit American Idol Season 9 and the launch of Glee. According to the 20 and 27 January 2010 rating reports released by AGB Nielsen Malaysia, Star World out-performed all other established English general entertainment cable channels among affluent viewers (defined as high monthly household income of HHI RM5K+), with No.1 ratings for the latest US’ top-rated reality show American Idol and the premiere of Golden Globe winning musical comedy Glee. Star World surged in primetime (20:00 – 22:00) ratings on 20 January after dominating the 21:00 – 22:00 primetime slot for the previous four-week period, almost tripling its ratings with the introduction of Glee on 20 January. In Week 2, the powerful pack of Glee and American Idol Season 9 (airing 27 January) continued to dominate the 20:00-22:00 time-band to sustain Star World’s leadership as the No. 1 English general entertainment cable channel among affluent viewers. The ratings of Glee, in particular, continued to have nearly three-fold increase among affluent viewers from the opening week (0.58 TVR vs. 0.20 TVR).
