Korea Telecom (KT) had more than 1 million subscribers for its IPTV service, Qook TV, by the end of 2009, up 89% from one year previously. Qook, KT’s combined IPTV, internet access and telephone package, had 1.17 million subscribers at the end of 2009, up 265,000 during the fourth quarter. Earlier in the year, KT rebranded its IPTV services from the Mega TV brand. The company is reportedly planning to invest up to KRW 1.7 trillion (US$ 1.45bn) in its IPTV platform by the end of 2012, and is thought to be aiming for 3mn subscribers by the end of the period. Meanwhile, SK Telecom and LG Dacom are estimated to have signed up around 400,000 and 300,000 subscribers respectively for their own IPTV services.
