China – National broadcaster CCTV launched the country’s first internet television station CNTV.cn, reports People’s Daily Online. CNTV.cn will broadcast news, sports, entertainment and two online video products, Bugu and Xiyou. Xiyou serves as a community where users can share their uploaded videos and communicate with each other. Bugu provides video services including live online broadcasts, video on demand and 24-7 replays. The launch aims to meet demand for live webcast programmes after the recent crackdown on illegal content sharing websites. It will re-broadcast content from CCTV’s 20 channels and 750 hours of programmes per day. It will also bring together 400,000 hours of programmes produced by CCTV over the years to create an ‘online museum of moving images’, the report said.
