Kuala Lumpur – Maxis Communications Bhd hopes to double its wireless broadband subscriber base by year-end, following the launch of its new broadband campaign, Something for Everyone. Afizulazha Abdullah, senior general manager and head of broadband said the campaign had a soft launch in July and its new broadband packages had been very well received. “Our sales have improved more than 100% year-to-date compared with last year. Next year, we expect to outperform this year’s performance,” he said at the formal launch of Something for Everyone. Afizulazha said although its total broadband subscribers were not as many as its mobile subscribers, Maxis would continue to deliver the best to its customers. On its market share and number of subscribers, he said, “We have a fair share of the market,” without elaborating further. Head of strategy and head of new business Dr Nikolai Dobberstein said due to the upcoming listing of Maxis Bhd, the company was unable to disclose the numbers. According to the draft prospectus lodged by Maxis Bhd, the company added about 31,000 mobile broadband subscribers in the first six months of 2009. Its broadband subscription totaled 171,200, or about 21% market share, as at June 30.
