Kuala Lumpur – A newly-established local animation company, Eden Studio, was declared the winner of two categories of the MSC Malaysia IPCC 2009 (Intellectual Property Creators Challenge) on 30 July 2009. The Malaysian IPs Candy Coated Bounty Hunter (a 20 minutes x 18 episodes 2D flash animation) and Dreamcatcher: The Opening (a 2D traditional digital comic), created by Eden Studio Sdn Bhd won the Animation and Digital Interactive Comic categories respectively. Eden Studio, an animation studio formed only last year, was the only company to emerge as the winner for two categories entered in the IPCC 2009 event. The company stood out among 13 finalists in the animation competition and 20 finalists in the digital interactive comic competition, amongst many local students, amateurs, and professionals from the creative multimedia industry. Hasnul Hadi Samsudin, manager – technopreneur & entrepreneur development of MDeC who organized the MSC Malaysia IPCC competition said that this award recognition for Eden Studio would hope to spur creative entrepreneur talent and knowledge based on originality of IP, planning competence, and commercial viability to help spur the growth of the creative multimedia industry by adding world-class contents into the Malaysia’s content library for the global market. Samsudin said, “This was the fourth consecutive year which Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), the leading Government agency for ICT initiative, organized this competition format. It is hoped that Eden Studio along with other encouraging finalists will use this experience and opportunity to expand their idea beyond the pilot stage and in the process, produce quality content that is marketable worldwide.” The news represents Malaysia’s best opportunity in the global digital content industry, in preparation for the upcoming MIPCOM in Cannes, France (5-9 October 2009) where Candy Coated Bounty Hunters and Dreamcatcher: The Opening will be up and available for partnership with investors and co-producers.
