Singapore – StarHub announced that it has secured the exclusive broadcast rights for La Liga (Spanish Primera Liga) for the upcoming three seasons till 2012. From the morning of Sunday 30 August, StarHub TV Sports Group customers will be able to watch up to four ‘live’ La Liga matches weekly on Football Channel (Channel 27), SuperSports (Channel 22) and SuperSports Plus (Channel 21). In addition, from 12 September, all ‘live’ matches will also be available in High Definition (HD) on Sports HD (Channel 304). StarHub will also be adding La Liga On Demand in September. StarHub MaxOnline and Mobile post-paid 3G customers who are subscribers of StarHub TV Sports Group can also watch selected ‘live’ matches via StarHub TV Online and StarHub TV on Mobile for free. Rival pay-TV operator SingTel mio TV recently unveiled its ‘Football Frenzy’ offering around UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and Serie A soccer. Intense interest surrounds the potential bidding war between StarHub and SingTel for lucrative English Premier League rights for the next three-year cycle starting 2010. Ong Bee Lian, StarHub’s vice president of home solutions said, “Football is the most popular sport genre among Singaporeans and we hope to share that passion through our commitment to bring them the best football action,” she added.
