Silver Spring, Md. – Discovery Networks International announced the appointment of Darcy Tomlin to the position of vice president of programming and business operations. Tomlin will be based at the company’s Silver Spring headquarters and report to Marieclaire Odell, senior vice president of programming and marketing. In this new role, Tomlin will serve as the primary liaison to bring Discovery’s content to its international portfolio of networks, which includes flagship Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and recently launched ID: Investigation Discovery. Working with programming teams throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America, she will oversee editorial needs and ensure that Discovery’s pipeline of award-winning content reaches its global audience. In addition, she will manage the operational side of the business, including financial and scheduling systems. Tomlin joined Discovery Communications in 1997 and has held various positions within the company’s Latin American division, based in Miami. Most recently, she served as director of programming for Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo and Discovery Civilization, responsible for developing the content and scheduling strategy for Discovery Channel and overseeing the programming team for the other networks.
