Mumbai – India’s Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament will be staged in South Africa for 2009 due to security concerns over it coinciding with Indian elections. The IPL Twenty20 tournament will be staged from 18 April to 24 May. 59 matches will be played across six venues over 36 days. England was originally the front-runner alternative venue, but estimates that around 70 percent of games might be disrupted by rain tipped the decision in South Africa’s favour.
