Singapore – Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific (DNAP) has announced the appointment of Rekha Mahendran as vice president, legal affairs. Based at DNAP’s regional headquarters in Singapore, Mahendran will head up the legal department in Asia-Pacific. Acting as regional counsel, she is tasked with overseeing and providing guidance on all legal matters pertaining to the company’s business such as channel carriage and distribution, strategic corporate acquisitions and joint ventures. Additionally, Mahendran will work closely with the company’s international team of lawyers and the Chief International Counsel to ensure compliance with and implementation of corporate rules and procedures. Mahendran first joined Discovery in Singapore in 2003 as director of legal affairs for Asia-Pacific and South Asia. She was promoted to vice president, legal affairs (international) in July 2005 and had since been based at the company’s office in London. Prior to joining Discovery, Mahendran was working in Malaysia as legal manager with the general counsel’s office for MEASAT Broadcast Networks Systems Sdn Bhd. Before that, she was an advocate and solicitor with a Malaysian law firm, and was a senior lecturer at City Law Centre.
