Broadcast Australia is providing transmission services and infrastructure for a new mobile TV trial in Sydney. The trial of DVB-H technology is being conducted by the Australian Industry Group (Ai Group), and also involves Optus, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nokia, and LG Electronics. It is delivering nine video streams to selected Optus mobile customers. The content includes Seven Network – Seven Digital; Australian Broadcasting Corporation – ABC1; Special Broadcasting Service – SBS Digital; Premier Media Group – Fox Sports News; Australian News Channel – Sky News Business; Turner Broadcasting – CNN International and Cartoon Network; MTV Networks Australia – MTV; and Fox Interactive Media – MySpace Road Tour. With one of the highest rates per-capita of mobile phone ownership, this trial will test the feasibility of introducing this technology to the Australia market, bringing services similar to those already available in a number of other countries in US, Europe and Asia.
