To compose the set-design of TV Globo’s next telenovela, India – A Love Story, set-designer for the production, Mario Monteiro opted to construct typical Indian monuments, almost full-size. “The real challenge was to extract the essence of the country and not stick with something obvious and stereotyped,” he commented. The telenovela will have three set-designed cities and a studio that will represent the interior of a hotel in Dubai. The house of the main characters is located in the main city. “In this setting, we made a collage of various Indian buildings. The plot still requires a bazaar, a public laundry, a well, a large cinema, five temples, and palaces. We’ll reproduce architecture from five cities,” Monteiro pointed out. Constructed inside a lake in an area covering 2,000 m² at the Projac – TV Globo’s production center – the stretch of the Ganges River, with its 11 m high staircases, was faithfully reconstructed in the second set-designed city. Filming has already taken place there, and also at the third city, which depicts the Lapa neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro.
