Asia Pacific led worldwide sales of IPTV equipment in the second quarter of this year, accounting for 48% of all revenue, according to a new report from Infonetics Research. Report found that worldwide sales of IPTV equipment reached US$562.4 million in the second quarter of this year, up 33% from the previous quarter. 32% of global equipment revenue in the period came from EMEA, 19% came from North America and 1% came from Central America and Latin America. These percentages are expected to shift considerably by 2010. Worldwide IPTV equipment manufacturer revenue is forecast to more than double between 2007 and 2010. Worldwide sales of IP set-top boxes (STBs) increased 62% in the second quarter of this year. Growth in worldwide IPTV service provider revenue is predicted to more than double between 2006 and 2007. “Regulatory approval for IPTV services in places like Korea is giving the market a boost, making it easier for deployment rollouts,” said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst for Infonetics Research. “MPEG-4 HD set-top boxes are hitting the market in respectable volumes, also facilitating deployments. Meanwhile, M&A activity continues to increase, as service providers prefer end-to-end solutions over best-of-breed approaches.”
