Singapore – Having announced that 6 percent of staff are to be laid off worldwide, gaming giant Electronic Arts (EA) says this will have a minimal impact on operations in Asia. “No-one is immune from the current situation,” vice president and general manager Asia Chris Thompson told Television Asia Plus. “The company has stated very publically that there will be a six percent reduction in workforce worldwide.” Asked how many of EA’s some 900 staff in the region this would impact, and whether numbers would be in line with the global 6 percent, Thompson said the staff reduction percentage in this region would be far less. He added that the company continues to be bullish about its online business in the region, with the commercial launch of FIFA online in Thailand, following its launch in Japan last month. The product’s commercial launched is targeted for Vietnam by the end of the year, as well as Singapore and Malaysia.
