Petaling Jaya – Malaysian publishing group Star Publications (Malaysia) Berhad will be involved in the new LI venture, set for launch early 2009. Majority owned by the Malaysian Chinese Association, the second largest political party in the Barisan Nasional alliance, The Star was listed on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in 1995. Its daily circulation of 300,000 copies (source Audit Bureau of Circulations) makes English language tabloid The Star the largest in terms of circulation. The group also publishes Sunday Star, magazines Kuntum, Shang Hai, Galaxie and recipe book Flavours. As reported previously by Television Asia Plus, LI (pronounced ‘lee’) stands for Lifestyle Inspiration, and will include a TV channel called LI TV. LI TV general manager Anne Chan confirmed that, with Star Publications’ involvement, LI will comprise more than just TV. “LI will launch not just as a TV channel but as a brand,”she said, adding that there will a magazine and other components to the new lifestyle brand.
