Hong Kong, Mumbai – STAR announced the appointments of Jonathan Ellis as its senior vice president, advertising sales and J C Giri as executive vice president and GM – regional channels. Hong Kong-based Ellis will oversee STAR’s advertising sales activities across the company’s regional markets including Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Said Laureen Ong, COO, STAR. “With Jonathan’s experience and track record coming on board, we have an enormous opportunity to further grow our advertising revenues to appropriately reflect our strong viewership across the region.” Speaking on Giri’s appointment, Uday Shankar, CEO, STAR India, said, “We are happy to have Giri on board with us at STAR. He will take charge of our planned portfolio of regional channels in Bengali, Gujarati and Marathi.” STAR also announced the appointment of Bonny Yu as vice president of programming, XING KONG; Jennifer Batty’s appointment as vice president, programming, STAR WORLD; and Jyotsna Viriyala’s appointment as vice president, programming for STAR WORLD India and STAR MOVIES India. The three newly appointed programming VP’s lead scheduling, acquisition, and content strategies for their respective channels. Yu and Batty are based in Hong Kong and Viriyala is based in Mumbai. Batty reports to Todd Lituchy, president of entertainment, while Yu reports to Lituchy and Jack Gao, CEO, STAR China. Viriyala reports to Batty and Brian Lau, VP, programming for STAR MOVIES.
