Hilversum – Endemol International will build an international set for its latest format Wipeout, a competition game show based on obstacle courses. The new set which will mirror Endemol USA’s version of the format for ABC in the US is expected to be used for back-to-back productions of Wipeout for broadcasters worldwide. The decision to invest “millions” into what is believed to be the world’s largest TV obstacle course, to be located in Argentina, follows the level of interest generated by the format at MIPTV in April 2008. The line up of broadcasters that have signed up for the show remains confidential at this stage although Endemol expects to make announcements in the near future. Mike Morley, senior executive director, commercial and creative affairs at Endemol International said, “Wipeout’s obstacle course is a visual feast, designed to create both high-drama and pure slapstick. The scale of this undertaking is almost unprecedented but it will allow us to deliver very significant cost efficiency savings to broadcasters around the world.”
