Mumbai – BBC World News has sealed content deals with six Indian mobile operators including BPL, MTNL, Airtel, Vodafone, Spice Telecom and Idea Cellular. According to local media reports, BBC World News’ content for the mobile platform is expected to include short news video clips. Currently, BBC World News content is being trialed by Spice Telecom and Airtel, as well as MTNL which announced it will launch a mobile TV service to offer up to 21 channels from June 2008 following current field trials. BBC World managing director Anne Barnard said that BBC World News is no longer a linear medium, and the series of content deals is part of the channel’s positioning as a tri-media news service, delivering international news and information across multiple platforms – TV, online and mobile. BBC World News’ Indian content deals bring its mobile content tie-ups to a total of 34 worldwide.
