Hong Kong: Sundream Motion Pictures has closed an output deal and co-production agreement with The Weinstein Company (TWC), and has also unveiled a slate of new productions. Under the agreement, Sundream, the film production arm of i-CABLE Communications, a cable TV service operator in Hong Kong, will oversee theatrical and video distribution of all TWC titles targeting the Hong Kong market including The Band’s Visit, Teeth, Sicko, and Elite Squad, and will deliver some titles for broadcast on pay-TV service Hong Kong Cable. Sundream will also co-produce two as-yet-unnamed Asian films within the next five years with the TWC’s Asian Film Fund. Separately, Sundream’s new film slate will include US$5million The Champions, an action film on the Chinese wushu team at the 1936 Berlin Olympics to be helmed by Sundream president Tsui Siu-ming and co-produced with Beijing’s Huayi Brothers; Cao Baoping’s The Equation Of Love And Death, also co-produced with the Huayi Brothers, and Zhang Yibai’s drama Lost Indulgence which will star Karen Mok, Eason Chan and Eric Tsang. It is also co-producing Yu Lik-wai’s Plastic City with China’s Xstream Pictures, Brazil’s Gullane Filmes and Japan’s Bitters End.
