Singapore – NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips will debut in Q2 2008, its SARFT-compliant TDA18252HN silicon tuner with multi-standard digital cable reception for the Chinese set-top box (STB) market. The TDA18252HN integrated tuner is expected to provide cost savings and performance efficiencies to manufacturers and operators, as well as reduce time-to-market with a half NIM reference design using NXP’s TDA18252HN that is pin-to-pin compatible with conventional CAN tuners used in Asia presently. NXP worked with Chinese cable STB makers to tailor the TDA18252HN to reduce external component count, improve assembly and deliver digital content with integrated analogue-compliant loop through to connect analogue TV. NXP’s new silicon tuner consumes 800mW of power during normal operation, and its built-in IF selectivity eliminates the need for external filtering. The TDA18252HN is suited for DVB-C and digital cable STB applications, with support for other global standards including SCTE-40, J-QAM and NORDIG. NXP also offers reference designs for TDA18252HN to facilitate the bringing of new set-top box solutions to market.
