London – Portman Film & Television, part of the Digital Rights Group (DRG) and international distributor of Australian drama Underbelly has closed sales for the series which has taken top ratings Down Under. Portman Film & Television sold Underbelly to Viasat in Scandinavia and Superchannel in Canada and France. The series, produced by Screentime for Nine Network in association with the FFC, is based on gangland killings in Melbourne’s through a ten year conflict between rival factions of the city’s criminal underworld. Underbelly, not aired in the state of Victoria due to a court order relating to an as yet unnamed character going to trial, was the top programme of the night for all viewers across all markets where it aired including Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. It was also the most successful Australian drama launch in the Sydney region and nationally in the aged 25-54 demographic since the introduction of the OzTam ratings system. Nine is currently appealing against the ban in the state where the killings took place.
