Sydney- The Seven Network is dusting off the Gladiators format, announcing today that a new version of the reality show will premiere in Australia in 2008. Gladiators was last seen in Australia on 1995. The network has begun the search for contestants who will take on physical challenges involving manoeuvres such as hang tough, pyramid, powerball and swingshot. “It will have a new look but will still retain the classic battles between Gladiator and Contender,” says Seven’s Head of Program Development Brad Lyons. No hosts have been named yet and a Seven spokesman said it is still deciding whether to produce the show in-house or commission an independent producer. Separately, Seven announced it will launch new US series Bionic Woman soon after its Sept. 26 US premiere. Seven had earlier announced it would “fast track” the new seasons of Prison Break and Heroes, which start in America on Sept. 17 and 24 respectively. Timeslots for all three programs will be announced in coming weeks.
