TV Globo has begun production in southern Brazil on the first-ever full HD telenovela, Duas Caras, for broadcast on December 3, 2007, in time for Brazil’s first digital transmission on December 2. Viewers in São Paulo will be the first to watch the HD telenovela written by Aguinaldo Silva and directed by Wolf Maia. Prior to Duas Caras, TV Globo has produced a number of its programs and external scenes for telenovelas in HD. These include series Mulher; mini-series A Muralha, Um Só Coração, A Invenção do Brasil and Auto da Compadecida; comedy shows Os Normais and TV Pirata, as well as reports for electronic magazine Fantástico. TV Globo has been testing its digital channel since June and is expected to be the first Brazilian television company to transmit via the digital system.
