Nonthaburi, Thailand- Shin Broadband Internet (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (SBI), subsidiary of Shin Satellite Plc., has launched DTV, a new consumer Ku-band satellite dish set to receive free-to-air television programs with no monthly fees. The company will use DTV Fantastic Caravan vans to promote the product in four regions of Thailand and aims to install one million DTV sets across the country in 2008. According to Shin Broadband’s marketing survey, Thai viewers predominantly watch free-to-air channels and don’t want to pay monthly fees. All free-to-air Thai TV channels can be received via DTV in digital quality. The DTV satellite dish can be easily installed by technicians while consumers can avoid using Yagi aerials which are more expensive and offer lower quality signals. Tanadit Charoenchan, General Manager of SBI, notes that households in remote areas that usually require high Yagi aerials will benefit from the new product.
