Broadband subscribers in Asia Pacific will grow beyond 195 million in Asia-Pacific by the end of 2010 while content services will be a key offering from operators, says telecoms and software consulting firm Ovum RHK in its recently released study of broadband deployments and service drivers in Asia-Pacific. Noting the differences in each country’s regulation of IPTV and content delivery, the report also reveals various factors contributing to FTTx expansion including national broadband initiatives, inter-carrier competition, and delivery of basic broadband services. Conducted by Ovum RHK and the APAC FTTH Council, the 14-country independent study addresses regional FTTH/FTTB, DSL, CMTS and wireless initiatives based on interviews with major carriers in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The report provides analysis on the 14 countries including the number of broadband subscribers by technology, broadband household penetration, key deployment drivers, major government and industry initiatives, regulatory issues, and timelines for FTTx deployment.
