Hong Kong– Following trials by Hong Kong’s two free-to-air broadcasters TVB and ATV, the SAR has established a national standard for digital terrestrial television (DTT). The two broadcasters have committed around US$200 million to the rollout of digital TV services, which will include basic tier four-channel SD and higher tier HD and interactive functions. Analogue switch-off is targeted for 2012, depending upon the territory’s digital penetration. Technical specifications for set-top-boxes and TV sets are expected from the government by end-June.
