Singapore – MediaCorp and TBS Television have signed a bilateral agreement to co-produce a television drama which will be the first collaboration of its kind between Singapore and Japan. Shot entirely in Singapore, the single-episode one-hour drama called Mooncake – or 朋友 – is a love story between a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer and a Japanese woman. Inspired by the assistance and friendship rendered by SCDF to Japan when the tsunami/earthquake occurred in March 2010, TBS proposed the idea for this first drama project which has a strong underlying theme of friendship. MediaCorp Deputy CEO Mr Chang Long Jong says: “The collaboration offers a platform for our creative talents to exchange their expertise and introduce our MediaCorp artists to the Japanese audience.” Mooncake is scheduled for broadcast on Singapore’s Channel U in end December.
